First launched in 1992, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control collection has always been the maison’s most classic line, featuring a range of models united by their technical virtuosity, commitment to certification and aesthetic restraint. The collection derives its name from being the first to receive the pioneering “1000 Hours Control” test certification.
Shocks, fluctuations in temperature, water resistance… Nowadays such tests are the norm, but at the time they were something exceptional. This new line was thus baptised Master Control, adhering to the most classical aesthetic canons of watchmaking whilst incorporating the functions and technology which have characterised Jaeger-LeCoultre since its inception.
The most recent Master Control collection features Jaeger-LeCoultre’s exclusive in-house calibres and vintage aesthetic as part of the maison’s signature elegant design.
The three dials vary according to the specific model but have various features in common, such as the interplay of their finishings: opaline within the central sector dial, with a satin-finish to the exterior.
Readability is improved thanks to the lightness and openness of the baton hands, the central part of which is open to the dial below.
What really sets these new models apart are their complications: the Master Control Date version has a 39mm case and Jaeger-LeCoultre 899/1 calibre, with the date positioned at 3 o’clock, whilst the 40mm chronograph is popular with a male audience that is not prepared to renounce practicality, thanks to its two convenient buttons on the case middle.
The flagship of the collection is the Master Geographic, uniting an immensely useful complication with timeless design: with its calibre 939B/1, the watch displays a second time zone at 6 o’clock and city dial (featuring 24 in total) visible through an opening spanning 4:30 to 7:30 on the watch face.
