The Lorenz Static is a table clock with a unique design which almost gives it a life of its own: resting on a point that appears incapable of supporting its weight, the clock appears to stand as if suspended by invisible threads.
This unusual design from Lorenz Static is a result of its creator Richard Sapper’s intention to a create a shape that wasn’t static: whatever position you put it in, the clock returns to its standing position all by itself.
This innovative characteristic won the clock a Compasso d’Oro award in 1960 – the oldest and most prestigious Industrial Design Award in the world.
Especially for Pisa Orologeria, Lorenz has created a special edition Static, whose stainless-steel outer casing is finished in rose gold, achieved via precision turning to abrade the excess material. The clock is thus composed entirely of a single piece, including the flattened part which acts as its support. The movement stop plate is made of aluminium, with a block mould that brings the volume of the clock back into alignment.
The high quality of Lorenz clocks however lies in the glass, made from methacrylate via high pressure fusion using chrome moulds to achieve total transparency. Featuring UV protection to guarantee against yellowing, the glass is deliberately convex in shape to avoid problems with light reflecting from external sources.
A stylish and uncluttered clock with sleek, clean lines, the elegance of the Lorenz Static is also reflected in its presentation case, identical to that of the original, and presenting the clock in an upright position. It comprises a cylinder of natural leather, worked by hand and lined with red flocked velvet.
The new special-edition Lorenz Static clock has been created exclusively for Pisa Orologeria and is on sale at its Flagship Store in Via Verri 7, Milan.
