Thomas Mercer presents “Nautical Timekeeping” in world premiere
On the occasion of the Montenapoleone Yacht Club, an event dedicated to the world of superyachts, Thomas Mercer will unveil the world premiere of its very own private museum, a timekeeper collection that recounts the brand’s 160-year history.
Founded in 1858 in London, Thomas Mercer has been ever synonymous with the marine chronometer, an instrument invented in the 18th century to calculate longitude tor astronomica! navigation. Great feats such as Sir Ernest Shackleton’s voyage on the James Caird or Sir Francis Chichester’s record-breaking crossing during the Atlantic Challenge were only possible owing to the precision of Thomas Mercer chronometers, whose renown culminated in the realisation of timepieces tor the Royal Yacht Britannia and the private piane of Sir Winston Churchill.
With the Nautical Timekeeping exhibition, scheduled from the 15th to the 21st of May at Pisa Orologeria, 7 Via Verri, Milan, the British house retraces its glorious past and recounts the pages of its present; an evolution in respect of the tradition which turned its creations i nto a point of refe re nce tor the interiors of exclusive superyachts and luxurious residences.
