Only Watch 09

17 - 18 September 2009 in Milan at Pisa Orologeria in preview Only Watch, a charity auction of unique watches created by many of the most important watch brands in Switzerland.

This exceptional event is held every two years in Monaco during the Monaco Yacht Show and is under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert 11. All the proceeds from Only Watch go to support research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The next Only Watch auction is organized in close collaboration with Patrizzi & Co and the Monaco Yacht Show, and will take place on 24 September 2009.

What is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy?

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a serious genetic disorder that affects one in every 3,500 boys. The disease is characterized by a progressive weakening of the muscles which result in respiratory and cardiac problems which can become fatal as the child gets older. In Europe there are around 30,000 sufferers of the disease.

Thanks to the generosity and hard work of the participating watch manufacturers and sponsors of Only Watch, in particular Osvaldo Patrizzi (Patrizzi & Co) and Luc Pattavino (founder of the Monegasque Association against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy "AMM"), and their energetic teams, great progress is being made in research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and the genes which cause this debilitating disease.

Among the most important progress has been the development of Saut d'Exon - a surgical technique which enables the cellular machinery to "forget" to read that part of the gene that carries the abnormality of the illness - this technique was developed by Luis Garcia - a key player in the field of Duchene Muscular Dystrophy - Head of Research at CNRS and his team. Garcia and his team are among the 20 research teams which have benefited from the financial support of AMM.

How does Only Watch work?

Swiss haute de gamme watch companies each produce a unique watch or the first (No 1) of a limited series to be offered (without a reserve price) at this exceptional auction
Patrizzi & Co Auctioneers will be taking these watches on a promotional preview tour during late summer/early autumn 2009
The Only Watch auction will then take place on 24 September 2009 in Monaco during the 19th Monaco Yacht Show
All proceeds from the sale enable the Monegasque Association against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy to continue to support international research projects into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy - a field in which the Association has been actively involved since 2005.
